I was born in South Africa and have been living the Netherlands for the past 27 years. I spend many months of the year in Spain and work and exhibit there as well, and have a permanent gallery in Yaiza, Lanzarote.

As a ‘found art’ artist, each sculpture evolves directly around the rough fragments of debris I find, mostly around the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa.

I place and juxtapose the pieces until the final image emerges, blending the found materials into an impression of what they may have been. The recycled feel of battered fishing boats, washed up driftwood, rusted metal and sea glass, appeals to me and is both a challenge and a joy to give all the pieces a second life. I often go to a restaurant or hotel for a coffee and see one of my works and know that before it was hanging there it was a little ship wrecked boat off the coast of La Graciosa, or some such, and it brings me so much pleasure.

By using what others would term ‘junk’ I upcycle the materials into art. I have done protest pieces against offshore drilling and other environmental issues and am using my art as a voice against exploiting our planet.

I often have a charity that just really pulls at my heart strings and I then use my art as a means of support. I organise and auction works or donate them directly for auction or sale.
